11 Best Amazon Music Playlists to Ask Alexa to Play for You Right Now
I don’t know about you, but far too often I find myself in a musical rut.
I get hit with the urge to listen to a certain type of music, listen to said music non-stop for weeks or even months, find that I can’t digest said music anymore, and end up flipping through lists relentlessly. playing Spotify and harassing my friends’ music choices for an unbearable period of time until I stumbled upon my next lyrical obsession.
Please allow me to digress for a moment…
When I first tried Tinder, all I wrote in my profile was, “I’m sick of my current music. What do you have for me? It worked wonders for the dual purpose of increasing matches and growing a new playlist (which I’m now sick of).
Anyway, given that a good chunk of people I know now use Amazon’s Echo or Echo Dot compatible with Alexa to organize their home, life, shopping, and entertainment choices, I thought it was worth taking a look at what Alexa could do for me and my musical boredom.
Because I’m fancy like that.
It turns out there are a huge number of options out there!
For those of you new to Alexa, here’s Amazon’s explanation of how “her” works:
“Alexa lets you ask questions and make requests using just your voice. For example, you can ask Alexa a question, such as ‘What’s the weather like in New York today?’, or say to Alexa to do something, like ‘Add batteries to my shopping list’ or ‘Play some jazz’. When you talk to Alexa, a record of what you asked Alexa is sent to Amazon’s cloud so we can process and respond to your request.
“You access Alexa differently depending on the type of device you’re using. For “hands-free” devices, like the Amazon Echo, you access Alexa by saying the wake word (Alexa, Echo, Amazon, or Computer). For other devices, like some Fire tablets, you access Alexa with the push of a button.”
Categories of help provided by Alexa include:
- Music and entertainment
- Call and messaging
- News and information
- Questions and answers
- Help around the house
- smart home
- fun and games
- Alexa Skills
So to come back to the dilemma of the playlist, I fished a little…
According to Amazon (again), you can “add music to your playlists anytime within the Amazon Music app.”
Sounds pretty darn easy, and not only that, but it turns out that selecting a playlist someone else has already created via Alexa is even easier than I thought!
All you have to do is say “Alexa!” then “Play [whatever playlist you want] playlist.” There you go! Music!
From here you can do all sorts of things, from shuffling a list to repeating a song to trumpets please! — ask Alexa to kick off a song you’re sick of!
