There are a plethora of great music streaming services out there today, including Apple Music, Deezer, Google Play Music, Spotify, and others, but moving your playlists between them isn’t as easy as it should be. Here’s what to do if you want your Apple Music playlists to appear on Spotify or vice versa.
Move playlists with SongShift
There is no direct way to move playlists from Apple Music to Spotify, so to accomplish this task, you will need to use a third-party app. There are a few available, not to mention some online services that import and export playlists, but the one with an excellent reputation (average rating of 4.6 stars from 6.3,000 reviews on the ‘App Store) is SongShift.
This app not only supports Apple Music and Spotify, but also Deezer, Tidal, Pandora, YouTube, LastFM and many more. There’s a Premium tier available for £3.99/$3.99 which lets you connect multiple music services at the same time, along with various other useful features, but the free version is perfect for the purpose of this tutorial.
To transfer your playlists, launch SongShift then press the circular icon with the + inside that you will find at the bottom of the screen.
On the next screen, tap the Source of config option. This opens another panel where you can link your suppliers.
To start, press the Connect music services button and you will be presented with a list of the different supported ones. Faucet Apple Musicthen touch the To allow button. You will need a current Apple Music subscription for SongShift to access the information.
Repeat the steps, but this time select Spotify. Again, you will need to authorize the connection by logging into your account and pressing the Accept button.
With both services connected, press the Do button at the top of the screen. You will be returned to New configurations the screen, but this time when you press the Source of config button, you will see Apple Music and Spotify icons.
Faucet Apple Music icon and a number of options will be available under the icon Select media type title. Faucet playlist then select the one you want to move.
SongShift’s free tier only allows you to move one playlist at a time, as multiple playlists require upgrading to the Premium version. That being said, you can repeat the steps in this guide multiple times if you don’t want to pay.
Then you will be taken back to New configurations again the screen, but this time Setup target option is available. Tap it, select the Spotify icon from the next screen, then press the icon New playlist option.
All you have to do is press Save to favorites button and I’m done to complete the process. SongShift will automatically copy the songs and when done you will have the option to confirm the match just to make sure no wayward songs appeared during the transfer.
Now when you connect to the destination service, in this case Spotify, your Apple Music playlist will be waiting for you. Of course, SongShift can also shift playlists the other way, meaning you can sync all your music services, whichever one you prefer to use.
