5 Study Music Playlists on Spotify and YouTube to Help You Study

Exams are fast approaching, which means that if you’re like most students, you’ve probably spent most of your time studying. For some, a study music playlist is a must to keep you going long hours of study.

According to a 2018 survey conducted by Tiger Hi-line, most students rely on a background study music playlist to improve their concentration. Out of 75 responses, 65.3% of students said they listen to music while studying, while 28% said they only do it occasionally.

Listening to background music while studying has been shown to engage areas of the brain involved in attention – leading to better concentration, better memory formation and better endurance, according to a Stanford Medicine study.

However, the type of music you listen to also matters.

A study in Research portal reveals that 78 out of 80 students find listening to music while studying distracting. The reason for this? Play fast, loud background music with lyrics as shown in a study conducted by the Psychology of Music.

Studies have shown that music that is fast, loud, and with lyrics makes reading material more difficult to understand and assimilate.

If you’re trying to improve your focus, consider listening soft classical music or music with slow, relaxing rhythms. Studies suggest that music with a slow tempo and low fidelity without lyrics can help students focus and improve memory retention.
